Neil is a Coach at Risely Health.
After spending four years, seven months, and 11 days in training for the United States Air Force, Neil was diagnosed with type one diabetes and discharged from the military. His dream of becoming a military pilot came to an abrupt end and while his endocrinologist told him not that diabetes wouldn’t hold him back, Neil believes that is much easier said than done.
Neil experienced 7 years of darkness before reclaiming ownership of his life and health, and setting out on a path that ultimately led him to a career of empowering others to achieve their dreams while living with type one diabetes.
In the 30+ years since his flying career ended, Neil has gone back to school multiple times to become a filmmaker, director and content creator. He directed the short film "Type 1 Day 1" and the award-winning "Bike Beyond" documentary with Nick Jonas and Victor Garber! And he has led seven mission trips to Peru to bring diabetes supplies and education to underserved populations.
His goal is to show people what they're capable of with the right group of people around them. Through his @thebetes account, Neil creates daily diabetes educational videos that encourage and inspire people in the T1D community every day on every platform. He is passionate about the future of T1D tech and helping people with diabetes avoid and navigate burnout.
Neil believes everyone can choose to make today “day one” - make the decision to start over, overcome, work through something or finally do the thing they’ve not done before. And he feels it is inspiring and humbling to be part of someone’s journey to “day one.”

The fact that Neil is a T1D makes a HUGE difference. Instead of waiting hours or days to get in touch with my Doctor, Neil would respond right away. Risely knows all the struggles a T1D goes through like nobody else because they live it and understand the day-to-day life. I don't feel alone anymore!
This coaching was much more personalized, than anything else I have experienced. I felt a deep personal connection with Coach Neil, rather than just feeling like the next appointment in a doctor's office. This was an incredible experience and was absolutely life-changing.
Much more personal than working with doctors. Neil was not only more invested than an endocrinologist, but also more knowledgeable about what it is like to live with type 1 diabetes.
Neil’s honesty, caring and compassion guided me through the journey of finding answers with almost daily feedback. Learning on my own and having a total of 20 min a year with the Endo didn’t give me the feedback I needed to guide me towards the answers I was looking for.
