In this week’s episode, I’m joined by Dr. Elana Dumont to discuss mental health and Type 1 Diabetes.
Dr. Elana Dumont is a NY State licensed clinical psychologist specializing in working with children, teens, and adults with mood and anxiety disorders. She was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes when she was 22 years old and is a passionate member of Risely’s Advisory Board.
Elana and I discuss essential topics surrounding mental health and Type 1 Diabetes, such as the acceptance process of getting diagnosed as an adult, navigating anxiety and stress while living with T1D, and how to get the most out of working with a therapist or a psychologist who might not fully understand the reality of living with T1D. We also talk about parenting for a child with T1D, the mental health of the caregiver, and Elana provides lots of great tips and helpful reframes for parents.
