May has been an incredible month for the type 1 diabetes (T1D) community, filled with groundbreaking advancements and inspiring stories.
1. Game-Changer: Omnipod begins G7 and iPhone integration
Omnipod started sending out limited-release emails to customers, inviting them to join in on the new Dexcom G7 integration or the option to control their pod using their iPhone app. This will require new versions of the Omnipod 5 pods that will be clearly marked that they work with the Dexcom G7. ASPN Pharmacies will be the first ones to have access to these new pods. The Omnipod 5 app on iOS will currently work with the Dexcom G6 integration only and will introduce G7 integration later. More information is here on their website.
2. Breakthrough: A New Dual Hormone Pump Partnership
This month, Xeris Pharmaceuticals and Beta Bionics announced a partnership to develop a dual hormone pump, combining insulin and glucagon delivery in one device. This innovation aims to provide more stable blood sugar levels and reduce the risk of low blood sugar. The dual hormone pump could be a game-changer for people with T1D, offering a more balanced and automated approach to glucose management.
