At Risely Health, we’ve always believed in the power of community—especially one that’s built around shared experiences. One of the most inspiring outcomes of growing our coaching community has been seeing the ripple effect of transformation. Many of our graduates, after experiencing their own breakthroughs, are so moved that they feel compelled to give back. Some even become certified health coaches to help others with T1D reclaim their lives.
But what if there was another way to give back—one that not only supports others but can also enrich your own journey?
Enter Unbound, a nonprofit organization that is offering a unique opportunity to make a profound impact on the lives of those living with diabetes.
A Unique Opportunity to Make a Difference
Unbound is conducting a research study that pairs people living with diabetes in the U.S. with elders in the Philippines who are managing diabetes while facing the additional challenge of poverty. By becoming a sponsor, you can be part of this initiative and help provide essential support to those who need it most.
Here’s how it works:
- Financial Support: For just $40 a month, you’ll sponsor an elder in the Philippines, helping them access critical medical care such as lab tests, regular checkups, and medication.
- Build a Connection: But this isn’t just about sending money. You’ll also have the chance to build a meaningful relationship with your matched elder, connecting over shared experiences of managing diabetes.
- Ongoing Communication: Sponsors will participate in at least three 30-minute surveys throughout the 12-month commitment, sharing your thoughts and growing your connection through regular correspondence.
- Elders in the Philippines: In addition to receiving financial support, these elders will also have access to support groups of other older adults living with chronic conditions like diabetes.
How Helping Others Could Help You, Too
This initiative is more than just about supporting others—it’s also a study exploring whether giving back can actually improve our own health. Does helping others help us, too?
Researchers at UNC Chapel Hill are leading this study, examining the potential benefits of volunteering and supporting others living with diabetes. It’s an incredible chance to not only change someone else’s life but possibly enhance your own health journey along the way.
If this resonates with you, and you feel called to get involved, you can learn more about the study or sign up to participate at Unbound Diabetes or by emailing diabetes@unbound.org. The study recruitment ends in March, so don't wait to take action!
